I ordered a Diesel heater pickup tube from China and it finally arrived today. I currently have the tank mounted just inside the back door. I’d like to pull direct from the tank. I crawled under a few weeks ago and found a spare port to place a pickup tube. I just need to get creative with adapters.

The pickup tube had a thread of M6-1.0 and the plug in the tank was 1/4″ NPT. I went to Home Depot to try and find something that might work. Nada. Well I got creative and bought the Hose Barb adapter and cut the end off and tapped it. See below pics.

Cut the barb off, ground down and sanded smooth.

Drilled out the hole to a #9 size and cleaned up the burrs.

Tapped it and test fit, Worked perfect!

Beautiful!

Cut the pickup tube to size and tapered it. This will be about 1/2″ from the bottom of the tank.

Top of tank with 1/4″ plug removed. In case anyone is wondering this is also a larger pickup tube but I couldn’t remove it without dropping the tank. So I just put the new pickup tube inside this one.

And it’s in. I put a small piece of the rubber line on the end, fitted in the plastic tube and ran the hard plastic tube back towards the heater. I had to stop here as it started raining.
