Today I received the replacement air tank. It was the cheapest option I could find that would fit. I got it for $70 shipped and the next option was over $180 plus shipping. I opened the box and was pleasantly surprised at the tank, it was a heavy steel tank and had a nice chrome finish. The fittings were solid and the welds weren’t terrible. It’s rated to 300psi and my system runs at 120 so it should be fine.

Out with the old and in with the Shiny! There were 2 extra 3/8″ holes on the side and I bought plugs for those. I got really lucky and this tank is nearly identical to the old tank. The only difference is the extra ports and the feet.

And that is where it’s going in. I had to bend the brackets in about 1/2″ to clear the feet on the new tank.

Fits Perfect! I bought new bolts for the brackets since I wrecked the old rusty ones pulling them off. The new ones are zinc coated. I installed a drain valve that has a pull cord to release pressure/drain. The old one had a manual unscrew type drain. All the fittings went in perfect. This is by far the shiniest part under the bus now.

The main tank got a bit of an update as well. The old setup was terrible. The previous owner replaced one drain with an air hose chuck, problem was the one he replaced was the low side and all the water collected in the air chuck. I replaced the low/left side with just a drain valve. On the right side I added a T fitting with the chuck out the side and a drain valve on the bottom. In theory this should work out better. Neat thing is I can run air tools off the bus now, just in case.

After this was all in and done I started up the bus and it built pressure right up to 120psi. I let it run for about 30 mins and everything looked great with no leaks. I let it sit overnight and the pressure didn’t drop at all so that’s a huge plus. I guess I’m ready for another drive to test out the air and most important to check for oil leaks after the huge oil leak fiasco and gasket replacement. So far after running for about an hour since the gasket replacement I am happy to report there are no leaks, yet!
