Jacked the pass rear up and pulled off the dually tires. Thankful that the torque multiplier came with the socket to remove those lug studs. The rear calipers are the same as the front, interesting. I think I might go get 2 more because why not.

Later That Day…..

Well the rear brakes are a bigger pain than the front. Started by breaking off the tiny bolt holding in the caliper retainer. I swear it was already nearly broken because I barely touched it and it snapped. Drilled out and tried an easy out, they never work for me. So I set that aside for now. Then I go to remove the brake hose and it won’t budge, had to unscrew it from the hard line and take it out with the caliper. Put it in the bench vise and got a nice grip on it and got it off destroying it. Weird thing is the date code on the hoses is 1994 and the bus is a 1998, so probably good to replace anyways. Then the pads are just toast, so off to O’Reilly’s again. They had the pads and 1 more caliper but had to order the hose. So Wednesday I’ll be trying to put it back together. Then decided to start putting the new caliper in and it’s a bit different than the first 2. It’s not factory painted and missing some of the hardware. Weird because it’s the same brand and same model number as the first 2. So I painted it black with some leftover caliper paint.

Caliper Sunday Funday. Jacked up the front of the bus, installed wooden cribbing to prevent death. Tested out the new torque multiplier to pull off the lug nuts, and it’s amazing! Pulled off the tire and found my problem. Driver side caliper had one seized piston due to a torn dust boot. Spent all day trying to find this dang caliper, turns out I just needed to input a 97 GMC T series truck and they had them in stock at O’Reilly’s. Part numbers for all this are on the info page. Replaced both sides because you’re supposed to. Now to borrow my neighbor to bleed the brakes again and another issue solved. Until I check the back brakes and find something else, lol.

Decided to get adventurous and take the bus for a drive. The rotors are caked in rust so I’ll just do the right thing and drive it around till they clean up. Well after about 20 minutes of tooling around the neighborhood I start to smell burning brakes. Guess which one of the front calipers is the problem?! It really sucks since these are the ones that were replaced 4 years ago by the previous owner. I was more worried about the rears.
